Contributing to a Sustainable Future: Our Role in the Porthos Project
At Dutch Empire Security, we are delighted and proud to announce our participation in the groundbreaking Porthos Project. This ambitious initiative is a critical step in the energy transition, further solidifying the Netherlands’ position as a leader in sustainability and innovation.
What is the Porthos Project?
The Porthos Project focuses on reducing CO₂ emissions by transporting and storing carbon dioxide (CO₂) from industries in the Port of Rotterdam into depleted gas fields beneath the North Sea. The process is expected to store 2.5 million tons of CO₂ per year, reaching a total of 37 million tons of CO₂ over 15 years.
The project involves an impressive infrastructure: a more than 30-kilometer pipeline running through the Rotterdam port area to collect CO₂, a compressor station for the gaseous CO₂, and an undersea pipeline that transports the CO₂ to a platform in the North Sea. From there, it is injected into reservoirs located three to four kilometers below the seabed.
Porthos has been recognized by the European Union as a Project of Common Interest (PCI), meaning it plays a key role in connecting the energy systems of EU countries. This recognition paves the way for accelerated permitting processes and funding, increasing both the impact and scope of the project.
Our Role in the Project
As specialists in security solutions, Dutch Empire Security is proud to be contributing to this innovative initiative. Our role is to ensure the safety of the infrastructure and personnel involved.
Thanks to our experience in securing facilities and complex sites—such as municipal buildings and strategic government projects—we have the expertise to meet the high security demands of the Porthos Project. Our security personnel receive continuous training through the Dutch Empire Academy, where they gain specialized knowledge in behavioral profiling and crisis management.
Impact of the Project on the Netherlands and Europe
The Porthos Project is not only a step forward for the Netherlands but also has a significant impact on Europe as a whole. By reducing CO₂ emissions, the project helps meet the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement and supports the shift toward more sustainable industrial practices.
For the Netherlands, this project further strengthens its position as a leader in the energy transition. For Europe, Porthos serves as a scalable example of how countries can work together to implement sustainable energy solutions.
